Dwrafton was created sixteen years ago, shortly after the Silver Sea became the Tarnished Sea. As news spread of the drastic transformation that had overcome the sea, the Oakenshoulder clan of dwarves sent a delegation of dwarves to study the waters, suspecting an undersea vein of precious metals as the cause. The dwarves made contact with the town elders, and the two sides came to an agreement: The dwarves could set up camp in the relative safety of Lakehome’s vicinity in order to conduct their experiments, and Lakehome would gain a portion of any profitable ores or minerals found within 10 miles of Lakehome’s shores.
In the end, both sides are benefitting greatly from the arrangement. The dwarves have the protection of the much larger town to fall back upon if needed, and the town has a group of dwarves needing many of the things the town produces.
There are currently 36 dwarves living in dwarfton, in smallish wood and stone huts they constructed themselves. They boast a smithy who serves as armorer and weaponsmith, as well as a fletcher to maintain stocks of crossbow bolts to their own dwarven standards. All other resources the dwarves need are bought or traded with the townsfolk. While the dwarves take in some funds through smithy work for the town, it is not really known where they continue to get the funds they use to purchase food and other supplies from the townsfolk (1).
